SNAKE CHARMERS INTERNATIONAL

SCI 101 – MYSTERY LESSONS: Investigations in Movement, Expression and Sound

One of the first movement poems that I learned in Odissi classical Indian dance begins with ‘My body is the universe, did you know that?’ This is a question that I keep coming back to and that I explore in my performance. How do we experience our own physiology? How is that influenced by culture, history, tradition, and belief structures? How is that influenced by politics, by not having proper healthcare? What makes our flesh and blood? Are we a part of this creative process? How does technology fit in? Can we make our body anew? These are things that are as mysterious as ever. As we explore this terrain of the body through movement, sound and expression we partake in endless mystery lessons.

FEEL-GOOD YOGA FLOW

Shakti's teaching journey began two years ago with a 200 hour teacher training.  As soon as she recieved the certificaiton, she traveled through Peru and the west coast of America where she was introduced to meditation.  The teachings of countless guides whom she met on the journey helped evolve both her meditation and yoga practice. Like many, she was never taught how to breathe until she stumbled on yoga. She makes sure to incorporate breath-work throughout her classes. Shakti sees yoga as a means of developing communication with the mind and body through the language of breath. Through demanding postures, quieting of the mind and calm steady breathing Shakti helps people access a deep, loving, unhindered power within.

YANG STYLE QIGONG

Qigong (alternatively spelled chi gung or chi kung) is a form of gentle exercise composed of movements that are repeated a number of times, often stretching the body, increasing fluid movement (blood, synovial and lymph) and building awareness of how the body moves through space. When you practice and learn a qigong exercise movement, there are both external movements and internal movements. These internal or "neigong" movements make qigong a superior health and wellness practice and also differentiate qigong from almost every other form of exercise in the West which often emphasizes prolonged cardiovascular movements (such as in running and biking) or focus on muscular strength training (weight lifting).
